About Me

My photo
Hi I am a Christian, a nurse, the mother of two grown children and two grand daughters, one grandson, and 3 dogs. I love people and have a huge heart. So why am I blogging? Well I've been told that I need to publish my writings. This seemed to be the easiest way to do that. Also, I want to get out there and live life to the fullest. Empty nests are great because now I get to explore the world. I'm starting right here on my computer. So come along with me and as I learn to fly we'll soar together!

01/26/10 Incomplete thoughts of spiritual constipation

Emotional and spiritual constipation
It's when people are unable to let go of old worthless garbage that causes someone to be unable to function normally.
Stuff that should be flushed gets lodged in the way and blocks up the works.
The whole thing comes to a standstill
Nothing gets in or out because it's clogged.

Emotional constipation can be caused by fear, loneliness, depression, etc
Any emotion that paralizes a person.

Spirituall constipation can be caused by religiosity, lack of faith, lack of knowledge, misunderstandings of who God is.

If God is your truth and He is a god you have made of your own imagination then he has no power and you are constipated spiritually.
We need a right view of God, Chip is correct.
When we do not see God for who He is we get stuck in our own stuff.

God is a God of love.  [not just a God of love, but Love itself]
If we view love in terms of our human understanding and apply that understanding to God we lessen Him.  We never realize that there is so much more of Him than we have an ability to concieve.  We see only through our own eyes and walk only in our own strength in terms of that love.  It is a difficult thing to open one's heart to the potential of knowing the Love that God is.  It is awesomely frightful because if we examine it in truth we realize that it has the potential to take over who we are.  We have an understanding that God could actually take us to that very uncomfortable place of losing ourselves.  Once we see that potential there is a point where one must decide to walk towards that so that we can die to self and allow Him to live through us. If we put off that decision, or if we step back and live less than it we become constipated and everything backs up within us.  We are unhappy and dissatisfied and fairly useless.  And eventually it begs the question as to wether we are truly a disciple of Christ or not.  And there comes a moment in time where God presses in and asks us to step up to the plate, take the plunge, and allow His love in.  A decision worthy of very weighty deliberation.
Aha! And you thought that this was applicable to expression of love alone didn't you!  Not so.  One must - absolutely must - be able to receive His love before being able to give it to others.
In fact I submit that without a complete surrender to God/Love and an open acceptance and willingness to allow Him to grow and live that Love within us, we cannot be called His.
So one may be philisophically inclined to acceptance of this, and yet because of the emotional and spiritual constipation in capable of doing just that.
Therefore the mind and spirit must by necessity come to an alliance bringing the will into submission.  The heart, the spirit, the emotional and spiritual and mental essence of a person comes to a concenses and can over-ride what caused the blockage.  In effect flushing out the system of old wrong thinking, ineffective protective measures, and barrier walls built of lies.

The point? This enternal battle between body mind spirit soul heart, and whatever other term one gives themselves.

And then there is this:

God is a God of passion.
If we view passion in terms of our human understanding and apply that understanding to God we lessen Him.
Passion is a matter of depth and commitment and desire and excitement an delight all rolled up into one thing.  God is passionate.  He breathed it into us.
I believe that people like David - who was a man after God's own heart - are because they are people of great passion.  Passion of character, of heart, of spirit.
A passion
