About Me

My photo
Hi I am a Christian, a nurse, the mother of two grown children and two grand daughters, one grandson, and 3 dogs. I love people and have a huge heart. So why am I blogging? Well I've been told that I need to publish my writings. This seemed to be the easiest way to do that. Also, I want to get out there and live life to the fullest. Empty nests are great because now I get to explore the world. I'm starting right here on my computer. So come along with me and as I learn to fly we'll soar together!

08/05/10 knowing God is like hopscotch

Lilke a game of hopscotch sometimes our relationship with God is like jumping from one box to the next heading towards the top to reach ‘home’ as we are drawn towards the center of Him.
He loves us and He calls to us and says jump in, jump into Me, I am good and I love you.

Since deep down we realize our depravity and the futility of living for ourselves we think that maybe we will reach out to find the God who loves us.
It’s difficult to believe.  But He calls to us.  So we take a leap and land in the first box only to discover just how wretched we are.  But before we have time to retreat He says yes you are wretched, but I love you, come to Me and know Me.

So we jump into the next box drawn by that love.  There we find a God of sacrificial love – so much love that He gave His son to die for us.  And there we realize our unworthyness and perhaps think to bolt again.  But just in time He reaches out and says to us, yes you are unworthy, but I love you, come to Me and know Me.

And so we jump into yet another box confident of His love for us.  And we find a God of steadfast commitment to us who will not let us go, which reveales to us our wayward hearts that are so easily drawn from Him like a magpie after any shiny thing we seek to hoard.  Still He reaches and calls to us and our shame is overcome by the steadfast love He pours out on us.

Jumping into the next box we find a God of strength, creator, almighty, soverign, and altogether fearful in His awesome power.  Before we have time to shrink under the prospect of being smashed to pieces simply by being drawn near to Him, He again softly whispers you are small and weak but I will hold you up, and He gives us His tender care and provision to meet our every need. And we are drawn even closer to Him with gratitude and trepidation.

The next box we jump into then we find a Holy God without sin or any shadow of turning, who is so far above our wildest imagination that we shrink and fall to our faces in wonder that we are able to live in His presence.  He says yes worship Me for I am that I am and there is no other, but He lifts us up and He dusts us off and He says to us, you are my precious child and all I desire is to have you know Me.  When I look at you I see my Son and the love He demonstrated by giving His life for you.
I love you.  Know me and know the love I have for you.

There are many more boxes of God, these are just a few off the top of my head.  Maybe something silly like hopscotch can help to reveal God to someone?  idk

We’re all broken people.
Only God can fix us.
But it does not happen on this side of heaven.
All we can do is jump into Him and give all we can give of ourselves to Him, every day, every moment, every step of the way, as we make our way to be with Him forever.
How totally cool that we get to tell the other broken people about Him and maybe hold their hand as they jump into Him also.
