So many years ago and yet still
fresh and new
But how often heard by ears that are
distracted
Even shunned at times burdened by
the weight of living
This news of the most precious gift
to man
How like those who lived back then
are we
Busy crossing the T’s and dotting
the I’s of life
Spending our time with cares and
obligations
Going about the business of the
‘season’
If only we could be struck dumb like
Zechariah
Made to take a step back and really
listen
Wonderfully put on pause and held in
place
So that eyes and ears could focus on
this awe
When the cars whiz by and we bump
along together
With urgency to spend what we have
not yet earned
How would it be if we could just
hold off a moment
And review the event that marks each
person’s destiny
A virgin girl
An angel’s message
A Holy pierce from Heaven
A humbled man betrothed submits
A royal decree
A journey
A birth – a miraculous birth
The commencement of God’s secret
plan
The simple truth of those events
gets lost along the way
But if by chance one finds them self
with even a moment free
And really ponders anew the meaning
and its weight
One might just find the message
there
A simple profound uncompromising
life
Of God to man
The gift
The message
Of incarnate Love
And maybe though life’s pace never
slows
And outward scenes don’t change
A heart once focused only inward
Will be opened and a real life
gained
