Pain, sweet pain that wakes me in the night
What doth your presence birth in me?
I love Thee Sovereign Lord
Your two edged knife’s pierce of love
Sweet pain what will thou bring?
I will to love Thy pierce my God
For in it is sweet victory o’er some cancer
in my life?
Passion’s twin this I accept
I sing Your Glory be displayed
My soul reaching for this Love
Body quiet I demand
And cry out with each stab
That all my soul’s desire implore:
Bring more of You into my heart
And stab and sting and cut at will
To usher in the glory of Your Love.
I pray relief of pain and yet
Thou Father prune these tender vines
While yet they can be bent
And mold my life into Your will
So that I die and You live.
